Kunzit

CONTEMPORARY JAZZ SEXTET

Kunzit presents original compositions with several movements, based on a narrative whose setting is the cosmos.

This sextet with a singular instrumentation (flute, voice, trombone, guitar, bass and drums) pushes the boundaries between styles by proposing a contemporary jazz that flirts with the psychedelic, narrative and multi-cultural spirit of progressive rock.

It finds its balance in the contrast: insistence of the claves and lyricism of the melodies, open improvisations or dependent on the groove, acoustic and electronic sounds, whispered or explosive statements!

The “Stellar Tale” is a musical and visual creation based on a narrative framework, in the manner of a rock opera. The setting is in the cosmos and the group integrates space sounds captured by NASA. A poetic and philosophical reflection on the question of the exodus to another planet…

Press review

LA GAZETTE – MARCH 2021
“Kunzit gravitates in the world of progressive jazz and stands out by the singularity of its instrumentation between flute, guitar, bass and drums.”
Valérie Suiro

JAZZ MAGAZINE – JULY 2021
“It is a bit of a dreamy jazz-fusion mixed with progressive rock and repetitive music. The drummer sometimes inserts, with his machines, mysterious waves coming from the intersidereal space, but the essential is in the sung lines, in the tense intervals, melodies inhabited of expressiveness; and in the dialogue of the soloists, whose improvisations are of beautiful invoice. The harmonies are tense, the music is demanding, and it is still in the development phase, but the result is of a beautiful quality. Moreover the public was not mistaken, which made a beautiful reception to this group. To be followed, with interest, like many of the groups that emanate from the Collectif Koa.”
Xavier Prévost

FIP – FEBRUARY 2022
“Powerful keys and lyricism of melodies, open improvisations based on groove, acoustic and electronic sounds, whispered or exploded declarations, Kunzit offers its “Stellar Tale”…”

LA GAZETTE – FEBRUARY 2022
“[…] the artists raised our imagination, transporting us thousand miles away from Earth, with a contemporary jazz, tinted with rock and psychedelic effects and NASA’s recorded sounds.”
